Fellow Profile

Broad Academy Fellows are diverse by every definition of the word. They come from households that struggled, backgrounds of privilege, immigrant families and high-need communities. They were lifelong educators, nonprofit advocates, socially-conscious business professionals and public servants.

They work in and run traditional school districts, public charter school networks and state education agencies across the country. Some are new to school-system leadership. Others are seasoned superintendents and education chief executives.

What all Fellows have in common is an exceptional track record of producing results, a deep desire to grow their leadership and the belief that every young person in America deserves nothing less than access to a world-class public education.

That’s where we come in.

Qualified candidates for The Broad Academy have experience in one of the following areas:

System leaders

  • K-12 superintendents of districts serving at least 10,000 students
  • Commissioners of state education agencies
  • Chief executive officers and executive directors of public charter school networks serving at least 2,000 students

Cabinet-level leaders

  • Large urban school districts serving at least 50,000 students
  • State education agencies
  • Public charter school network serving at least 6,500 students

We also consider executives from the public and private sectors, including elected officials, military officers and nonprofit leaders who have a demonstrated interest in making an impact in public education.
